Meet Our Partners in Sustainability
Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine
The Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine was founded by Juliet Blankespoor in Cherokee Nation territory (in what is currently known as Asheville, North Carolina), nestled in the botanically rich Southern Appalachian Mountains. We have a plant-centered approach to bioregional herbalism, which includes instruction on plant identification, organic medicinal herb cultivation, and sustainable foraging of abundant and weedy medicinals for personal and planetary health.
The school offers several online opportunities to learn, including the Herbal Medicine Making Course, the Foraging Course: Edible and Medicinal Wild Herbs, and the Herbal Immersion Program.
The mission of United Plant Savers is to protect the native medicinal plants of the United States and Canada (and their native habitat) while ensuring an abundant renewable supply of medicinal plants for generations to come. They contribute an incredible body of research and education and tend a botanical sanctuary that is open to the public in Rutland, Ohio.
Created by writer, plant-lover, and anthropologist Ann Armbrecht, the Sustainable Herbs Program shares the stories of the people and plants behind herbal products. Their goal is to create a movement supporting high quality herbal remedies, sustainable and ethical sourcing, and greater transparency in the herbal supply chain. You can read more about their work here.
Traditional Medicinals was co-founded in 1974 by herbal fairy godmother, Rosemary Gladstar—one of the leading voices in North American plant conservation. Rosemary is no longer active in the company, but her ethics and tea formulas remain as keystones. Today, Traditional Medicinals is the leading seller of wellness teas in the United States, a Certified B Corporation, and a California Certified Green Business.
The Traditional Medicinals Foundation is an off-shoot of the company, led by co-founder Drake Sadler, that bridges the gap between commerce and philanthropy—advocating for a social business model where community-lead development, equitable trade, and compassionate capitalism benefit every stakeholder.
Founded by herbalist, green-thumb gardener, and author Deb Soule, Avena Botanicals is a high quality, hand-crafted herbal products line that serve people's health, spirit, and well-being. Over 70% of the herbs in their remedies are grown in their certified biodynamic gardens. You can take classes with Deb, or join her for an herb walk, in Rockport, Maine.
